An unaccompanied piece for clarinet (or soprano saxophone) exhibiting modal melodies, almost entirely diatonic, this piece has a slow, lyrical beginning followed by a fast section featuring mixed meters and plenty of rhythmic vitality. The range reaches the second high C above the staff at the very end. Difficult; approx. 6-1/2 min. (Year of composition: 1984)
