This early work by much-celebrated composer Erwin Chandler, of Reading, Pennsylvania (U.S.A.), has retained its freshness since it was composed for the Bilger Duo over 45 years ago. A tonal piece with a harmonic fabric seasoned with mild secundal dissonance, the fast outer movements feature predominantly scalar and arpeggiated figures for the saxophone, while the slow middle movement is somewhat more abstract. With one high F# and one high G, and lower ossia for both, this is an ideal sonata for the early college or moderately advanced high-school student as well as the professional. Moderate difficulty; approx. 9 min. (Year of composition" 1969
